Thank you to all who attended the first Centre Square community engagement event Tuesday night in Rockwell Park. The event was held in conjunction with the “Rockin’ Out at Rockwell Park” summer concert series. Approximately 700 people attended the concert and several hundred members of the public stopped by the Centre Square booth to participate in community visioning exercises. Participants were asked to share their thoughts and ideas on different layouts of the Centre Square site, including the general locations of buildings, green spaces, parking areas, and public gathering spaces. In addition, community members reviewed images of buildings, green spaces, streetscapes, and public gathering spaces and were asked to pick their favorite and least favorite image in each category. In general, the public preferred medium-sized buildings with traditional architectural designs, central gathering spaces, green spaces that supported both passive and active uses, and streetscaping that included on-street parking, street trees, and areas for outdoor dining.
If you were unable to attend the first event, it is not too late to get involved. You can visit the project website at www.bristolcentresquare.com for project news and announcements. You can also participate in the Downtown Bristol Visioning Survey at www.bristolcentresquare.com/survey. A second community engagement event will take place on Saturday, August 20th at the West End Summer Festival. A specific time and location for the Centre Square booth will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
